There are many industrial communication protocols available for creating industrial IOT applications and connecting different types of machines.
Ethernet communication –
The 100-MBit Ethernet interface integrates the CNC into a network for high-speed part program transfers and process-related data collection. It also supports remote troubleshooting from the maintenance department or a machine tool builder worldwide. Because the Ethernet port does not use a public operating system, it is practically “hacker-free” and virus-immune.
Fast Data Server
The Fast Ethernet option board provides a dedicated CPU to support multiple connections and is suitable for DNC operation and remote operation using the CNC Screen Display function.
The Part Program Transfer Tool provides a simple drag-n-drop interface to transfer files from a PC to a CNC connected to a network.
The Fast Data Server combines the benefits of the Fast Ethernet option, 4GB of flash memory for part program storage, and a powerful FTP server. The FTP server allows a robust and easy connection to a PC allowing simple drag-and-drop operations to the Fast Data Server part program storage memory from an office environment. Part programs in the Fast Data Server memory can be edited and executed just like the primary internal part program storage.
Device Net interface enables the controller to communicate with external equipment/Welding power source over a DeviceNet network.
It provides a simple method to connect robots, CNC to Device Net compatible Actuators, Sensors, and External controllers

FL- net is a control level open FA network designed to provide intercommunication between controllers.

FL-net is a control level open FA network for interconnecting various types of FA controllers such as PLCs, CNCs, and Robots, etc. that are manufactured by different manufacturers to control and monitor them.
Maximum 254 devices can be interconnected via FL-Net.
Switching Hub is required if more than 2 devices are available.
Speed of the communication is 10MBPS.
Common memory area is used for sharing the data between nodes(Devices). Two common memory areas are available (common memory area 1, and common memory area2). The common memory area will support for sharing all bit information such as DI/DO, UI/UO, GI/GO, and WI/WO. The common memory area2 will support for sharing register data and Al/AO.
All these communication protocols are very useful for IIOT applications.
